As business owners and entrepreneurs, we often forget that real people receive our campaigns and messages. These are imperfect humans with hopes, fears and ambitions. And they are more likely to trust and engage with brands they can relate to—which is why your messaging should reflect your customer more than it does your company. That is what we mean by humanizing your brand.

Remember, you’re marketing to a specific group of people who need your help alleviating their pain points. So dig deep and craft a message that leaves individuals feeling personally connected to your brand.

The following tips provide an excellent jumping-off point for those looking to create a strategy that encompasses a human-centered brand.

  • Consider your brand’s voice. How does your brand sound? The more conversational you can be, the easier it will be for people to forge connections with your offers.
  • Word choice. When you think about your brand, and the relief it provides for your customer’s pain points (or even specific products or services), what words come to mind? Make a list and use these words and phrases often.
  • Appearance. Imagery is one of the most potent forces a marketer can use to connect with their audience. Bring empathy into the picture using images that support the values you wish to convey through your brand.

Marketing is all about identifying pain and then offering relief. Start humanizing your brand with these foundational tips and branch out further as you become more acquainted with the sub-groups in your target audience.
